A great story about a kind gesture from Louie Anderson. This is an excerpt from a story about a guy who shared his tribute to Louie Anderson.
I was watching Louie’s first time on the “Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson.” Remember, being on Carson was the biggest thing a comedian could do in the 1980s. Comedian Joe List points out on social media, that despite the pressure of being on Carson for the first time, Louie looked relaxed.
That’s something all comedians and performers could learn. He had such confidence in his material. I heard Louie say on a podcast with Bob Saget that by the time he got to the “Tonight Show,” Louie had six sets ready for the “Tonight Show.” There are a few stories about why Louie Anderson got cast on “Coming To America.”
But I saw one interview where Louie said he saw Eddie Murphy come into a restaurant. At the time, Eddie was on the way up in life while Louie was not quite rich. Louie left his credit card to pick up Eddie and his entourage’s tab but he told the waiter “Don’t tell Eddie I did this until after I am gone.” Within a day or two, Louie’s manager called asking him to be in “Coming To America.” That story stuck with me. Louie tells the story that he bet at that point in Eddie’s life, no one picked up Eddie’s tab. He made a kind gesture and it was rewarded.
